Wired Q&A w/ Blizzard on new MMO

World of Warcraft Cataclysm
ANAHEIM, California — Blizzard is creating a new MMO game. With the enormous success of its World of Warcraft, it doesn’t seem to make sense for the same company to release a competing title.
Yes, judging by the recent unveiling of its new expansion Cataclysm, Blizzard is still supporting World of Warcraft and its 11.5 million players. But it doesn’t think that losing some of those players to another Blizzard game is a bad thing.
At Blizzard’s annual fan convention BlizzCon this past weekend, chief operating officer Paul Sams said that although there has been some initial concern in the company about cannibalizing their WoW subscribers, they think they’ll get over it quickly.
“I think the (new MMO) is going to be significantly differentiated enough,” Sams said. “Such that, you’re not going to feel like they’re one and the same resulting in that you have to pick or choose,” he said.

I think that every online game that has come out since World of Warcraft has been compared to it. I don’t believe that a new MMORPG from Blizzard is any exception to this. Most people can only afford to play one MMO (money and time), so what’s the point? Why not make World of Warcraft better?

Because WoW is falling apart and everyone’s getting tired of the same repetitive crap over and over they still haven’t really introduced anything special into wow besides a bunch of dumb new classes and races. Did you ever notice that the Lich King looks strikingly similar to the Witch King from lord of the rings?

@JoKeRz, I agree with some of what you have to say. I think that they should put their effort into completely rebuilding the game from scratch. Especially Azeroth, the graphics look horrible compared to the newer areas. The game is nearly 5 years old, and it shows.
The Lich King was introduced in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

LOL yep if you was to fly above Stormwind you would see that most of it is just a huge illusion and that its all half ass done, same with Org. That’s why we will never be allowed to fly (like in outlands and northrend) in that continent unless they revamp the bejesus out of it.

Actually, in the x-pac you can fly EVERYWHERE. Also, they are changing all the original content as well. EVERY area has been changed in some way.

Its good to finally see Blizzard go back and take a look at the original parts of Azeroth. If SW:ToR is released after this, or it bombs, I fully intend to check out Cataclysm.
About the new MMO from Blizzard, with all the positive success of WoW along with all of their other great games, I can’t wait to see what their next MMO will bring to the table.
